Market for holiday lets in Ceará set to heat up this year

After hugely successful progress in vaccination and international health and hygiene certificates, Ceará is looking forward to an excellent year for tourism. The sector saw 19% growth in 2021 and figures for the Christmas and New Year period were on a par with those registered prior to the pandemic. As a result, the state tourist board is optimistic for 2022 and believes that the market for holiday lets in Ceará is set for a particularly strong year. 

Rise in popularity for holiday lets in Ceará

Staycations have come into their own over the last two years and with them, the Brazilians’ discovery of holiday lets. This type of accommodation often allows guests to stay in high-end properties at a lower cost than a hotel. And in the case of holiday lets in Ceará, they tend to be in quieter locations. 

“The tourist market is experiencing big changes,” said Iuri Barbosa, Director of a holiday let start-up in Ceará. “The boom in staycations from pent-up demand will undoubtedly benefit Northeast Brazil,” he added. 

Ceará’s strategic location 

Barbosa also mentioned the privileged situation of Ceará in Northeast Brazil. The state sits on one of the main tourist routes in the world and appeals to visitors from the state itself and other parts of Brazil. 

Within Ceará, specific destinations are experiencing a surge in interest from international tourists. They include Jericoacoara and Flecheiras, particular hotspots for foreigners looking to invest in buy-to-let properties. In 2021, this type of investment in Ceará increased by 10%. 

Solid returns 

recent article in the regional broadsheet, O Povo, highlights the solid returns available to investors in holiday lets in Ceará. One buyer from Portugal chose the area because of its “huge potential for growth in domestic and international tourism”. 

He highlights the returns during the pandemic, which have covered all expenses and explains that there’s enormous potential ahead because “people are wiling to travel”. 

Ceará has best property values this year 

Forbes agrees with this potential and has picked Fortaleza as one of the top six places to invest this year. The US broadsheet underlines the appeal of Ceará to tourists from all over the world as well as Brazil and calls it a “top choice for a cash-flowing investment”. 

Health and hygiene protocols in place 

Ceará was one of the first destinations in Brazil to receive the WTTC Safe Travels seal, awarded to the state in early autumn 2020. Since then, it has received the Responsible Tourism stamp. In addition, this year, tourists must present a vaccination certificate to enter hotels and other venues in the state.
