The
Northeast regularly ranks as a favourite among Brazilian holidaymakers,
particularly during the high season at New Year and in July and August. Ceará
also features regularly among the preferred states in this part of the
country, and this year is the absolute favourite for July holidays in Brazil.
As a result, Ceará stands ahead of other destinations such as Rio de Janeiro,
Porto Alegre and Natal.
Ceará favourite for July holidays in Brazil
The latest research from Decolar reveals the nation’s top spots for holidays in July. According to the leading holiday portal in Latin America, Fortaleza airport is the most popular for flight searches on the website.
This popularity makes Ceará the favourite destination for summer holidays in Brazil. The state ranks ahead of Rio de Janeiro and Porto Alegre in second and third places, respectively. It also beats other popular vacation spots such as Salvador, Natal and Joao Pessoa.
The Secretary of Tourism in Ceará, Yrwana Albuquerque, highlights the appeal of Ceará among Brazilian holidaymakers. “Ahead of us, we have a period of sunshine and favourable winds that are ideal for sports such as kitesurf,” she said. “As a result, many tourists head for our long coastline to relax and enjoy their vacation.”
Demand for staycations soars
The Decolar report also finds that Brazilians plan to travel far more this summer than last. Compared to July 2022, demand for holiday packages is 53% higher this July.
The figure confirms this year's trend across the country, and particularly in beach destinations, such as Ceará. The state recorded the highest growth in tourist activity in January, and visitor figures have since grown exponentially.
2023 one of best years for Brazilian tourism
A separate report from the World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC) endorses the optimism for the July holidays in Brazil. The latest WTTC findings estimate an economic impact from tourism of R$752.3 billion this year, the equivalent of 7.8% of the country’s GDP.
In 2022, the impact of tourism was R$727 billion, up 22.7% on 2021. Staycations were responsible for most of the economic impact, with a share of R$496.5 billion. This figure is 25% higher than in 2021 and 6% above 2019.
Holidays in Brazil exceed pre-pandemic levels
In addition, this year’s impact is 5% higher than 2019, when it reached R$716.5 billion. The latest figures therefore that tourism in Brazil has exceeded pre-pandemic levels and point to one of the best years ever for the sector.
According to the WTTC President, Julia Simpson, Brazil is one of the main countries where tourism is recovering and has the potential to grow further. “The travel and tourism sector in Brazil is recovering, showing how keen travellers from all over the world are to visit and explore what this beautiful country has to offer,” she said.
